AdelaVoice, a privately held venture-funded company, was founded by an experienced group of entrepreneurs: CEO Christopher Hassett is a technology veteran with 15+ years' experience as a creator of Internet startups. John Nogrady, VP of Business Development, has 20+ years' experience in the technology sector.

Christopher Hassett

Christopher Hassett, Co-Founder, CEO

For more than 15 years, Hassett has founded and led numerous Internet companies known for state-of-the-art technologies. Early in his career, Hassett founded BluePoint Technologies, which developed computer chips that allowed laser printers to work faster – technology that was sold to Adobe Systems in 1990. He then founded PointCast, a software company that helped Internet users better manage and understand the proliferation of information available on the Web. Serving as CEO from 1993 to 1997, Hassett led PointCast to become a pioneer in the use of push technology for broadcast news programming over the Internet.

After leaving PointCast in 1997, Hassett founded PrizePoint Entertainment, a development company for online entertainment programming. In 1999, PrizePoint was purchased by Uproar Inc., and Hassett continued as Uproar's president. During that time, his accomplishments included managing the growth of the company, leading to its 2000 Nasdaq IPO. Hassett was instrumental in the successful sale of Uproar to Vivendi Universal in 2001 for $140 million.

Hassett has been featured in leading business publications such as Fortune and BusinessWeek, has appeared on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Bloomberg, and other business programs, and has been a speaker at many Internet forums and conferences. He has a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts.

John Nogrady

John Nogrady, Co-Founder, VP Business Development

With more than 20 years experience in starting and developing innovative technology companies, John Nogrady is responsible for evaluating and executing new business opportunities, strategic alliances and partnerships for AdelaVoice.

Nogrady got his start in technology as a software engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation. He later became director of business technology at WebMethods, where his responsibilities included managing the company's technical relationship with business software giant SAP AG. In 2003, Nogrady joined Microsoft as a leader of its Emerging Business Team, where he fostered global partnerships with startup companies and the investment community.

Throughout his career, Nogrady has been involved in founding and building several startups. He was senior software architect and manager of Pacific Rim display products at BluePoint Technologies, which developed computer chips that allowed laser printers to work faster. BluePoint was acquired by Adobe Systems in 1990. Nogrady also served as chief technology officer and vice president of engineering at PrizePoint Entertainment, a development company for online entertainment programming that was acquired by Uproar in 1999.

Nogrady serves as an advisor to several early-stage technology companies and is an active advisory board member for the Office of Research at the University of California, Davis. Nogrady is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in computer science.


Stage 1 Ventures, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, is an early stage venture capital firm that is building partnerships with great entrepreneurs that are flexible and who want to build meaningful companies. John Nogrady

David William Baum

David Baum is an experienced general partner with 23 years in the information technology industry, including fourteen years in technology finance and nine years in entrepreneurial operating management roles.

As an operating entrepreneur, David founded two companies including Pensoft Corporation, a venture-backed (Mohr, Davidow Ventures, IVP, and Bay Partners) mobile communications company that was sold to AT&T in 1994.

David was a key principal that raised, launched, staffed, and managed Prism Venture Partners, a leading early stage venture capital fund. Founded in 1996, Prism has provided start-up equity to more than eighty-five companies, which have completed four public offerings and twenty five strategic mergers and acquisitions. During his tenure at Prism, the firm grew from zero to over $1.25B under management. Previous investments include Softricity (sold to Microsoft), Network24 Communications (sold to Akamai), DotBank (sold to Yahoo), Altaworks (sold to Opnet), Integral Access (sold to Telco Systems), Syncra Systems (sold to Retek), Salesnet (sold to RightNow) and Bitfone (sold to HP).

In January of 2006, David launched Stage 1 Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm. New investments include Carbonite, Skyhook Wireless, Hiplogic, AdelaVoice, e-Centives (sold to Catalina) Innerpass, Instream, Delfigo Security, OnePin, Myxer, Ringleader Digital, Gaterocket, Cuesol (sold to MobileLime), Magnify Media, go2 (merged with 80108), Auspice (sold to Arris), Nimbit, WorldWinner (sold to Liberty Media), and Zink.

As a twelve year member of Common Angels, David is an active angel investor (24 angel investments) and a strong supporter of entrepreneurs across the country.

David holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School with second year honors and BS in Computer Science from Drexel University where he graduated first in his science class.

David's investment areas of focus are: mobile applications and systems, cloud-based applications, content and gaming, IPTV, virtualization, location based services, on-demand enterprise software and data communications equipment.

John Nogrady

Jonathan Gordon

Jonathan Gordon has been a successful executive, entrepreneur and investor for over 30 years. He has been at the forefront of many historic market and technology changes in the high tech global economy.

Mr. Gordon is the founder of Ametron Technologies, Inc., a consulting and licensing firm that helps entrepreneurs and technologists with business development and monetizing their Intellectual Property and inventions. Recent clients have included Picassa/Lifescape (sold to Google), a photo management tool; Corestreet, a provider of security software; Liquid Machines,a provider of enterprise rights management technology and solutions and Bitzmart/ Stealth Media Labs, a technology used to embed information into digital audio and video streams with playback through Windows Media Player 9 Series.

Before Ametron, Mr. Gordon was CEO of mGen, Inc., an e-learning enterprise software company, which was focused on 1st Responder market opportunities within DOD and other government agencies, such as the Navy/Marine Intranet, US Dept. of Agriculture and the US Army.

Prior to that, he was CEO and founder of EndPoints, Inc.(sold to Flextronics and Archi-tech, Taiwan), a fabless semiconductor company, whose imaging chips powered high volume, low cost consumer digital cameras. Preceding EndPoints, Mr. Gordon was President of DiagSoft (sold to Sykes Enterprises), a PC hardware diagnostic and manufacturing test company.

Subsequent to EndPoints, Mr. Gordon was the founder of Phoenix Publishing (sold to Softbank). Mr. Gordon was also President of Paterson Labs, which he sold to Phoenix Technologies Inc. for Paterson's founder, Tim Paterson (the author of the MS-DOS operating system).

Mr. Gordon has built international sales and marketing organizations for several notable companies like Phoenix Technologies, who he assisted in their IPO as their first VP of Sales. Additionally, he was VP of Sales of Graphic Software Systems, an early PC software pioneer who had graphic software on the original IBM XT and AT.

Jonathan's early sales and marketing career included Physical Data Inc. (sold to Honeywell), a start up instrumentation company, who made digital waveform recorders for use in fusion reactor and munitions testing. He also was a sales engineer with Tektronix and helped introduce the first low cost graphic terminals for mini and mainframe computing.

Mr. Gordon attended the University of Wisconsin and Penn Morton College.

Gregory Hassett

Gregory Hassett

Hassett is an experienced software architect, solution designer, and engineering manager. He has been working with computers, specializing in software, for more than twenty-five years. He began his career at the cusp of the PC revolution, starting his first software company at the age of 12. At the age of 15 he joined Digital Equipment Corporation in its Technical Languages group where he worked on their Pascal and Ada compilers. At Digital Equipment in Silicon Valley, he helped develop a high-density interconnect process to allow wafer-scale interconnection of integrated circuitry on multi-layer substrates.

In 1992, Hassett left Digital Equipment to co-found PointCast, Inc., where he led and grew that company's technology teams through the company's successful launch which scaled to deliver over one terabyte of data per day to over one million PC's deployed worldwide. Hassett served as CTO of AwardTrack, Inc., a rewards-point management system, which was sold to 24/7 Media for $75 million in 2000. Hassett served as CTO of GorillaPark, a pan-European business accelerator, from 2000 through 2003, living and working in London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Among others, Hassett's work at GorillaPark helped to launch Vibrant Media (www.vibrantmedia.com), WebPerform (acquired by Gomez, www.gomez.com), Mobile Commerce in the U.K. (www.mobilecommerce.co.uk), and Pharmeon in The Netherlands (www.pharmeon.nl).

Since leaving GorillaPark, Hassett has been engaged in several technology developments. Hassett has co-authored three U.S. patents and has two others pending.
